A new year brings a great many more challenges. This year I started out my goals in fitness in Los Cabos Mexico. February 7th I made my swim across the sea of Cortez to lands end for the 2nd time in my fitness challenges. In 09 I made the same swim and did it in 41.04 this year I did it in 27.32 Upping my time in the water during the last 6 months has helped loads. Thanks be to God, it was a safe swim.
First Race of the YEAR! The Library Run February seems that every time I get on this course, I shave some time off my personal best here. Last year I did this same run in 20.10 this year I did it in 19:56 Always a great run!
Almond Blossom 2010 8K Faster & faster I get, cold is a standard for this race and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The turnout was one of their biggest and I was extremely happy to beat my time in the 8K from last year. In 09 I did it in 34.36 this year I did it in 33.09
Henrys Run! 1st place 19.53 This is one race I look forward to every year. Its Henry’s Run at Stan State University. The weather was awesome compared to last year and we all did better then expected. Me, I came in 2nd overall and 1st in the age group 40- & up. Last year I did this run in 20:36 A great run for some wonderful children who weren’t so lucky at birth.
It was April 17th and I ran for health. Excitement! You bet, went in to this run easy in mind for the reason that on May 2nd I would be doing The Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon. Even though it wasn’t my best time for a 5K, I still manage to place 1st over all. Since I started running in 05, I have never once placed 1st over all; Their has always somebody faster and younger. On April 17th that somebody was me. I couldn’t believe it! In most of the races that I have been in, there is one fellow that had always been the leader of the pack. He’s a fast runner and has been running since the dawn of time. I just got use to the fact that if he is racing with me. I may place 2nd in our age group but not 1st at this years run for health, I beat him and still can’t figure out how. My wife seems to think I put a rock in his shoe when he wasn’t looking. Perhaps. None the less, it was my day and winning a race in my age group is awesome, but winning a race overall is Spectacular!
Shadow chasing the Pros “The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon” So I got the attention of the Pros at The Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon this year; IM still ecstatically happy by how much time I was able to break away from last years Triathlon “The Escape from Alcatraz” It wasn’t a 5 minute increase nor a 10 or even 12 But, a staggering 52 minutes. After the Triathlon, I met up with the Pros in The Muscle Milk Rejuvenation Station and they to couldn’t believe how much I had improved in one years time. They where very much interested on how I did it. So, I told them strait up. I did it through my faith in Jesus Christ & crossed that finish line in his name & for him and his people who are struggling with addictions, weight loss and life in general. Jesus was with me all the way. He kept me safe & strong. In fact, never once did I get tired nor did I bonk. During the Tri, I found myself repeating to others along the way, passing on the left. Friends, just as soon as I hit the water, I felt good! During the triathlon I seen many struggles along the way as well as crashes on the bikes & injuries during the run. Staying focused in him, I avoided spills & fatigue. On June 13th at 5PM The Escape from Alcatraz will air on the TV network CBS I invite to see just how vigorous this Triathlon can be & keep in mind, if I can do it so can you! My bib# was 1275 this year & 1050 last year. This year I completed it in 3:07:36 & in 09 I completed it in 3:59:11
Oakdale Chocolate Run 2010 Despite
the Doctors recommendation. I decided to jog this mornings race. Jog, ya right!
IM a runner, well, at least till I got 1.5 miles into it; my body decided to put
me in check. I had a huge lead overall & then I had to fall back cause the
irritation of the procedure started to act up & a slight pain came on.
I fell back & asked my Lord to guide me. He guided me to 2nd place in my age
group & 7th over all. The Modesto Classic 2010 This was the first time I ever took part in the race. Generally I miss it because its my busy season. IM a DJ so right now in the month of May its all about entertaining 3-4 days a week. In fact, the only reason I took part in this race was that a friend asked me to be Cheeto The Cheetah for the kids. Having only 3 hours of sleep the night before; I got my sleepy body out of bed that morning & took off to do the 1 mile & play Chester for the kids. Me I just couldn’t disappointment them nor my good friend Barbara. But thanks to her, I can now add a Cheetah to my long list of Mascots I have been in my life time. Check out my impressive Résumé. I have bewen The Easter Bunny, Splasher The Frog, Chucky E Cheese, A Power Ranger. Roller Roo, Santa Clause & now a Cheetah. Hurray! The silliest one I have ever been, it was a Power Ranger. I was 300lbs & my costume was on backwards. Ouch! Giggles. The Worse mascot I have ever been. That would be Roller Roo. Why? I never learned how to skate. Smiles. God willing, I will try to make this a yearly run & work on trying to do better on the 1 mile course I ran. This year I did it in 5.56 Not to bad for only 3 hours of sleep. The Escalon Park Feet 2010 This has always been a fun race & the only 2 mile race I do all year long. This year I placed 3rd in my age group & not with my best time. I was still very happy & very tired. The effects of over training where settling in and in fact, little did I know that I would be getting injured the fallowing day in a casual 13 mile run. Me, I am only human. A Sinner as everyone else and guilty of only listening to my Lord but not hearing. He had been telling me to slow down with 2 prior injuries since the Escape From Alcatraz in May. Me, IM a big dummy. Again, I was listening but not hearing him. In the end, I came to listen & hear with an injury I brought upon myself with an over worked knee. It put me down for nearly 3 weeks. Can I get a witness? I am that witness and I’m here to tell you that God Answerers Prayers. Please read below what happened to me at the next run. GAP God Answerers Prayers Its hard to be competitive when you have a duck on your head I love you Jesus & I thank you for loving me Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Color The Skies 2010
Wasn’t sure where I would land back on September 4th still recovering from injury but thrilled to be running again. I entered in the annual Color the Skies Race. Last year I accomplished in the race what I had hope to do for a long time since I have been running. I wanted to run a 5K in under 20 minutes. This year, I just wanted to run. Stand or fall, its amazing what the power of having faith can do for ones Spirit. This year I did it in 21.36 and place 5th in my age group and 7th over all. Even though I didn’t beat my time, it didn’t matter for in this race I felt as if I could fly for my Lord was with me.
Cancer Awareness Ride & Run 2010
On September 4th I ran in the toughest race of my life. I had worked the night before, had only 3 hours of sleep, recovering from surgery, knee still jacked up & sick with a cold. Oh that cold, it beat me down like a jackhammer does on concrete. Still, I had a promise to fulfill to a friend. Wasn’t really concerned about placing, just more concerned about finishing the run and giving it all I had. I did finish the race and much to my surprise, I placed 3rd in my age group and the metal I earned was blessed the fallowing day by Monsignor Silva, the oldest priest at our parish. I mailed it out to the man who’s name is written on my palm. It is to remind him that he is not alone in his fight against cancer; he has, a Disciple of Christ in his corner. My promised of a sacrifice was fulfilled to my friend Debbie Held for her father and as I crossed that finish line, the name that was written on the palm of my hand was handed to my Lord. Central Valley Triathlon 2010
For some, winning is everything. For me, I have learned once a again after fall backs in life from injuries, surgery’s and sicknesses that just being in the game is an accomplishment on its own. I entered the Woodward Lake Triathlon on September 25th 2010 Wasn’t sure how I would do, I virtually have had zero training for it and hadn’t been in the water for 2 weeks from the surgery I just had. But my faith and conditioning kicked in and I did better then I would have expected. After the Triathlon, I had to leave in a hurry to get to work. So, I wasn’t able to see where I placed in this Triathlon. Still, at the end of the triathlon I was ecstatic because I had beat my time in this very same event from last year by 4:44
A few days later, I logged onto the Triathlon website to see my result. Much to my surprise, I had placed 3rd in my age group and 10th over all. Extremely grateful I am and was. Last year I placed 7th in my age group and 22nd over all with loads of training for it. This placement was a gift from God to reassure me that I was on the right path to recovery and that I should never get to big headed from any of my accomplishments in life. My time, 1:31.57 and not only did I earn a metal, but I also gave me a boost of faith that I am on the road to a full recovery with him Jesus Christ as my King. Thanks be to God!
